Dr. Tara C. Spencer

Dearest Finch Community,
Welcome to the 25-26 school year! I write to you as the PROUD Principal of Finch Elementary School. I am honored to continue to serve in this role, as it is one of dedication to excellence, dedication to student achievement, and dedication to being a servant leader in a community that boasts of rich history and abundant pride. In my 21-year career as an educator, I have worked as a Teacher, Data Coach, and Assistant Principal. Still, I consider my most significant job title is that of “child advocate.” This role aligns with the ideals and values of Mr. William M. Finch, Atlanta’s 1st African American Councilman and staunch supporter of providing quality education for ALL children.
My goal is to always provide a supportive presence and strong leadership that will ensure that each student reaches their greatest potential- both academically and socially. I am wholeheartedly committed to fully preparing our Finch Eagles for success beyond elementary school. I commit to spending a great deal of time with your children, getting to know their personalities, learning styles and interests. I vow to celebrate their successes, small and large. I promise to provide daily encouragement and I vow to let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school, in the Oakland City community and in our world.
here's a lot of excitement ahead of us, including new teachers/staff to meet, new friendships to nurture, new books to read, and new skills to learn and master. We look forward to you sharing in these exciting times in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Please plan to attend our Open House on Friday , August 1st to meet your child’s teacher, receive resources, and learn about the exciting things we have planned this school year. The Open House is scheduled from 9 am-11 am and will get you prepared and READY for DAY ONE on Monday, August 4th, 2025.
I encourage you to take the time from your busy schedule to become familiar with our school. Please follow us on our school website and social media platforms to stay informed.
Again, I am excited to welcome you into the 25-26 school year! Please know that I am committed to continuing the positive movement of Finch’s achievements and I am excited to create many more partnered successes.
Soaring High with EAGLE Pride,

Dear Students, Families, Staff, and Community Partners,
I am both honored and excited to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal of William M. Finch Elementary School. It is with great enthusiasm that I step into this role, and I want to express my deep commitment to the academic growth, well-being, and success of every student we serve. As an educator I have had the privilege of serving this school community in a variety of roles for the past 15 years, each one deepening my connection to our students, staff, and families. I bring a deep and unwavering passion for advancing student achievement, supporting high-quality instruction, and increasing family engagement. My goal in this role is to help build on the great work already happening here while working alongside teachers, students, and families to raise achievement and ensure the opportunity for every child to thrive.
Student success is not the work of one but the work of many. I believe that by working together, setting high expectations, and creating a culture of excellence and equity, we can ensure that every student reaches their full potential. Whether it’s through supporting teachers, building strong partnerships with families, or ensuring that every child feels seen, heard, and challenged, I am committed to making a lasting, positive impact.
It is a true privilege to be part of the Finch family, and I look forward to working together to support every child’s growth and success. I am excited about the journey ahead and so grateful to be doing this important work alongside all of you.
Dedicated to making a difference,
Karmishala Bentley-Cuyler

Dacia Lampkin

Kindergarten - Second Grade
In 2004, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Albany State University. In 2006, I obtained my master’s degree in Post-Secondary Education from Troy State University. Prior to my service as an instructional coach, I served in the capacity of a first, third and fifth grade teacher.
In 2016, I joined the APS district as the math specialist at the former Fain Elementary. In 2018, I was fortunate to begin the school year as Finch’s K-2 instructional coach.
Throughout my professional journey, my belief has been that students learn best by doing, and that active teaching encourages active learning. When students see the value in their learning, they become invested. When they are invested, they are engaged! This is truly when the most learning takes place. I am proud to be a member of the Finch staff and know that together, we will.
